{"id":16054,"date":"2026-08-27T11:10:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T11:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oeuvre-orient.fr\/back-to-school-in-the-middle-east\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T11:10:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T11:10:56","slug":"back-to-school-in-the-middle-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeuvre-orient.fr\/en\/back-to-school-in-the-middle-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Back to School in the Middle East"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No child should be left behind.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the outbreak of the war in early March 2026, several countries where we support Christian communities have been severely affected: destruction, massive population displacements, and thousands of dead and wounded. <strong>In Lebanon<\/strong>, particularly in the south, entire families have been forced to flee, finding themselves without resources overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, our concern is focused particularly<strong> on children<\/strong>. The conflict has severely disrupted their education: classes have been suspended, and for some, returning to school is impossible. Yet children are always the first victims of crises of this magnitude. Without support, the very future of these countries is threatened. Now more than ever, school remains a place of protection, hope, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year, Christian schools in the Near and Middle East serve nearly <strong>400<\/strong>,<strong>000 students<\/strong>, regardless of their background or religion. These schools need support to continue their mission.<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"contenu\" data-component=\"19-contenu\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h1 class=\"contenu__titre\">In Southern Lebanon<\/h1>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"contenu__filet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oeuvre-orient.fr\/wp-content\/themes\/oeuvre-orient\/assets\/images\/icones\/filet.svg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"300\" height=\"3\">\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Sister Ma\u00efa runs the Saints-C\u0153urs School in A\u00efn-Ebel, which is currently closed for security reasons. Classes are continuing remotely as much as possible. She says: <em>\u201cDaily life is difficult, between power outages and bombings. Yet we\u2019re teaching our students about solidarity and resilience. The teachers lead by example: they continue to teach without pay, even as families struggle to pay tuition.\u201d<\/em> Nearly 1,000 students currently depend on this school.<\/p>\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"contenu\" data-component=\"19-contenu\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"contenu__titre\">In Gaza<\/h2>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"contenu__filet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oeuvre-orient.fr\/wp-content\/themes\/oeuvre-orient\/assets\/images\/icones\/filet.svg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"300\" height=\"3\">\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>The situation is dire. Before the war, five Christian schools were open to students. Today, only one remains open: the one run by the Holy Family Parish. It serves between 160 and 180 children every day, in the heart of a community of 400 refugees. Father Gabriel Romanelli, the parish priest, notes: \u201cChildren are among the most vulnerable and must be protected as a matter of priority.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"contenu\" data-component=\"19-contenu\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"contenu__titre\">In Israel<\/h2>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"contenu__filet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oeuvre-orient.fr\/wp-content\/themes\/oeuvre-orient\/assets\/images\/icones\/filet.svg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"300\" height=\"3\">\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>In Nazareth, Saint Joseph School continues its educational mission amid a tense situation. Administered by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Apparition, it serves nearly 1,000 students, half of whom receive instruction in French. Despite economic difficulties, the school strives to remain open to all, regardless of social background or religion. It now needs support to continue welcoming the most vulnerable children, paying its teachers, and providing the necessary supplies.<\/p>\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-fe48e5de wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-background wp-element-button\" style=\"background-color:#c4122f\"><strong>Je soutiens les chr\u00e9tiens d&#8217;Orient<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-medium-font-size\"><blockquote><p><strong>In these three regions suffering greatly, we are driven by a single goal: to enable every child to continue their education under dignified conditions.
