In 1874, these two groups merged into a single institute and took the name \u201cCongregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education and the promotion of women\u2019s roles, carried out through social programs, were two of the institution\u2019s main missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Founded in 1853, the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts School in Bikfaya is the first school in the Metn region. \u201cOur Congregation was established five years ago with the goal of educating the girls of the towns and villages of Mount Lebanon,\u201d wrote Sister Marie Elhab, superior of the Mariamettes in Bekfaya (Mount Lebanon), on March 12, 1858.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Caption: Nashabiy\u00e9 School, Dame Syrie, run by the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary The Jesuit missionaries founded two women\u2019s groups, the \u201cMariamettes\u201d and the \u201cPoor Daughters of the Sacred Heart,\u201d to serve as their assistants in working with women in a society that was still resistant to girls\u2019 education.
