Eastern Christians in France

“There is a long tradition in France of taking an interest in Eastern Christians. The French must make an effort to learn about the Eastern Churches in France, to recognize them, and to engage with them. They must realize the full extent of this heritage that is ‘right at their fingertips.’ “In Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and also in other cities across France, there are these Eastern Catholic communities that live and celebrate every Sunday”—Bishop Pascal Gollnisch, former director general of the Œuvre d’Orient.

These Eastern Catholic communities, which represent more than 200,000 Christian faithful, have been deeply affected by the tragedies currently unfolding in the Middle East and have welcomed new members from among the refugees in recent years.
