“To pray with the Christians of the East is to understand and respect their faith, which has only grown stronger through the trials of history…. The faith of Eastern Christians is a faith in action, in the name of Christ and the Gospel. It is made tangible through works of charity, often carried out by priests and men and women religious who care for others and educate them, pushing themselves to the limits of their strength.”
In response to requests from Christians in France who wished to learn about the spiritual tradition and prayers of Eastern Christian communities, the Œuvre d’Orient has compiled a selection of prayers from various Eastern traditions and different periods.
Whether they have been passed down from generation to generation since antiquity, like that of Saint Ephrem, or are rooted in the present day, like that of Archbishop Mirkis, the Chaldean Archbishop of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah in Iraq, each one brings us into a deeper connection with the daily lives of Eastern Christians.
By reciting them in turn and praying with them and for them, we share in their sufferings and joys, we take part in their fervor and hope, and we experience the beauty of their faith.
