What is cultural heritage?
Heritage refers to all the elements that bear witness to a community’s history. It consists of monuments, objects, and works of art, as well as skills,
knowledge, languages, and artistic expressions. Passed down from generation to generation, heritage is a living legacy.
It shapes the cultures of communities, which are both its heirs and its guardians. Every Christian community in the East embodies a culture of its own: unique because it expresses its identity, but also universal, because it contributes to the common heritage of humanity. The diversity of these cultures thus contributes to the richness of the world.
Intangible Cultural Heritage
Rituals, languages and expressions, traditional craftsmanship, celebrations, and stories make up a community’s intangible cultural heritage.
This heritage is more than just a legacy of the past: it is constantly renewed by the communities that ensure its transmission to new generations.
