As the events of the past few hours have profoundly shaken the Middle East—in Iran, the Holy Land, Lebanon, Iraq, and throughout the region—L’Œuvre d’Orient expresses its deep concern over this new escalation of violence. These events come on top of already deep and long-standing crises that have been undermining the human, social, and economic stability of these countries for years.
With a presence among Eastern Christians for more than 170 years, L’Œuvre d’Orient reminds us that local churches are now fully committed to serving all people, without distinction. Through their network of hospitals, clinics, schools, and social services, they are on the front lines providing aid to people who have been displaced, injured, or made vulnerable by the situation.
Throughout the region, material aid is accompanied by essential spiritual support amid a climate of anxiety, uncertainty, and fear for the future.
In Lebanon, religious communities are preparing to welcome displaced people from the south. In the Holy Land, Christian institutions—particularly hospitals—are stepping up to meet the growing needs of the civilian population.
In the face of recurring conflicts and the risk of a prolonged crisis, L’Œuvre d’Orient calls for a resolute commitment to peace, the only way to protect civilian populations and safeguard the future of the countries in the region.
