Prayer of Saint Ephrem the Syrian for the East

Lord our God,

You chose the East to send Your only Son and fulfill the plan of salvation.

You chose a young woman of the East, the Virgin Mary, to carry and give birth to your only Son;

It was in the East that He grew up, worked, and chose His apostles and disciples;

It was in the East that He conveyed Your will and Your teachings, and that He performed miracles and wonders;

It was in the East that He gave Himself up;

It was in the East that He chose to suffer, die, and rise again;

It was from the East that He ascended into heaven and sits at Your right hand.

We pray that You will grant Your children in the East the strength they need so that they may be strengthened in the faith and hope of Your holy apostles. Amen.
