Aleppo, Syria – the night of January 6–7
The city of Aleppo was once again the scene of deadly clashes on the night of January 6–7. According to our partners on the ground, the violence left at least nine people dead, marking one of the most serious outbreaks of violence in several months.
L’Œuvre d’Orient, which has been present in Aleppo for many, many years, continues to assist the local population, which it has supported without interruption throughout the war. The city is home to a long-standing and large Christian community, which has been severely affected by the conflict, just like all of Aleppo’s residents.
Current situation on the ground:
– Schools and government offices are closed
– Residents were forced to relocate to get away from areas near the front lines
– Humanitarian needs are growing rapidly, particularly in terms of providing shelter for displaced persons and medical care for civilians
L’Œuvre d’Orient calls on all parties involved to put an end to the fighting.
On the ground, all of Œuvre d’Orient’s partners, as well as its staff member in Aleppo, are fully mobilized to assist displaced populations and provide the necessary medical and humanitarian support to civilians.
