Survival: The Major Challenge Facing Schools in the Middle East

In this war-torn Middle East, Catholic schools serve as a bulwark against exile and a key factor in peace. Maintaining access to a quality education is a daunting challenge for men and women religious amid physical, moral, and financial insecurity.

In Palestine, “After COVID and the war in Gaza, our students and their families have lost hope,” Sister Silouane laments.

"How can we re-engage them in a situation like this? How can we show them that they have a future to build?"

In Lebanon, “dozens of schools are at risk of closing due to a lack of funds,” protests Sister Marcelle, who refuses to give up and is restructuring and reorganizing the schools so that the children are not deprived of an education.

In Syria, despite the challenges, schools continue to serve everyone. Take Sister Samia, for example, who is deeply committed to the education of young people with disabilities.

They are all doing their best to keep their organizations afloat, but they are overwhelmed by the scale of the task. They need our help to keep going!
